Leading British K-1 Rules promotion Superfightseries Championship announced it will hold a big tournament at the Dunstable Conference Centre near Luton on 5 December.
Eight of the UK’s top fighters will compete in a single night eight-man GP to be fought at a weight limit of 75 kg (165.34 lbs).
The winner will be crowned SFS Super Grand Prix Champion and earns the SFS GP Title belt and a cash prize of £2000. The tournament runner-up receives 500 quid, while the other semifinalists walk away with 250 each.
Tournament results “will decide the UK no 1 to 10” rankings at 75 kg also, according to SFS Director and UK K-1 Rankings Chairman Amir Subasic.
SFS has signed some top talent to compete in the SFS Super Grand Prix. Former number one UK K-1 fighter Vinny “The Leopard” Church, who competed at the GLORY event in Birmingham, returns after taking some time away from the sport.
KOK veteran and UKMF Muay Thai titleholder Marcus Powell is also in the mix, as well as the well-regarded Chris Melhuish and SFS National Champion Jefferson George.
Kamil Sojkowski, a European Champion fighting out of London by way of Poland, is also entered as is hard-hitting Dan Tracey.
Rounding out the field are another Pole, Piotr Bulczynski, and multiple-time champion Ryan Lyall. Oscar Ownsworth and Jai Meyrick are the alternates.
The Super Grand Prix tournament first-round matches will be determined during fight week via a “love draw”, with eight ping-pong balls representing the eight tournament quarterfinalists.
“Is a proper mix tbh,” SFS Director Subasic told Kickboxing Z, speaking of the tournament.
“Kickboxers, Thaiboxers, and k1 guys.”
“As always SFS brings the rain.”
“It is a shame that so many were not available due to many reasons but hey we want fighters that fight,” he said.
“And as always on SFS, new heroes will be born. Our track record proves it.”
