Oscar De La Hoya says the recent Canelo vs. Charlo bout was "super boring" and is calling for promoters to put on more super fights. Canelo Alvarez's most recent win over Jermell Charlo has drawn a lot of criticism from fans calling both fighters' performances lackluster. 'The Golden Boy' specifically called out Charlo, implying that he was simply there to collect a check and seemed to lack motivation to win.
De La Hoya said super fights are in the best interest of boxing promoters, calling out Eddie Hearn, Al Haymon and Bob Arum to work together. "If we want boxing to survive, if we want boxing to thrive, we need super fights like all the time. Let's come together, let's meet, the power of the minds, and come up with something because boxing can die. I'm calling you all out, let's do this", said De La Hoya.
However, some disagree with this notion, saying super fights could expose lucrative fighters to opponents who could beat them. This would then lead to a decline in the fighter's value and thus not be in the best interest of the promoter.
